Sundance Institute Announces $1Million in Emergency Relief for Independent Artists and Organizations
Announcing the Sundance Institute COVID-19 Respond and Reimagine Plan
Being an independent artist means daring to tell bold, authentic stories with no strings attached and no compromises. It means taking risks, centering new perspectives, searching for meaning, and deepening our connection to the world around us. The COVID-19 pandemic has cast a bright light on the importance of art, reminding us that, as Joan Didion famously wrote, “we tell ourselves stories in order to live.” It has also laid bare the vulnerability of independent artists, who are mostly freelance workers and often left out of the current support systems despite their cultural and economic impact. Further, our attention is called to examine the systems and structures across our field that were already stressed and now face serious threats, from independent cinemas to acquisitions for smaller and risk-taking independent films.

Sony Pictures Post Production Services Delivers a Soundtrack Packed with Action and Laughs for “Bad Boys for Life”
The film, which debuted on January 17 in North America, broke several box office records its opening weekend
For its award-winning sound team from Sony Pictures Post Production Services (which includes Supervising Sound Editor/Sound Designer/Re-Recording Mixer Steven Ticknor, Sound Designer/Re-Recording Mixer Tony Lamberti, Re-Recording Mixer Kevin O’Connell, Supervising Sound Editor Andrew DeCristofaro, Supervising ADR Editor Becky Sullivan and Sound Designer Laurent Kossayan), Bad Boys for Life’s infectious blend of full throttle action and side-splitting comedy presented unique challenges. Car chases, gun battles, explosions and other forms of mayhem—all requiring robust sound treatment—occur throughout the film, but the story is driven by the hilarious bad-boy banter between Mike and Marcus. Capitalizing on every twist and turn of the action sequences while allowing the humor to punch through required the sound artists to bring their A game.
